Provenance
This was painted for my grandfather, Steve Marmon, owner of the Star Ranch at Wolf Point Montana and first sheriff of the North Dakota Territory.Standing's children drew lines on the back of the painting and used it as a checker board until Steve picked it up. (See image.) Steve knew William Standing from the 1930's until both died at the beginning of the 1950's. The painting has always been in my family.
