Arts and Crafts Victorian Oak Davenport ca 1880
This beautiful antique Victorian Arts & Crafts oak davenport has a brass gallery above a lift up lid and the interior has several letter racks, original glass inkwell and pen holder. The entire section lifts to reveal a secret compartment. The piece has its original brown leather writing insert and the interior is veneered in striking birds’ eye maple. One side of the piece has four graduating oak lined drawers with original brass handles and the opposite side has four faux drawers. The piece has beautiful, shaped carved brackets, stands on four turned bun feet with original black porcelain castors and the locks have been made by Hobbs & Co London, a good sign of quality. The piece is a warm rich medium oak colour with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good original condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
