A good, late-17th century, walnut cassone (1650 to 1700 Probably French)

The plank top with cleated ends and a solid moulded edge. Original hinges revealing an interior with candlebox. The lock removed. The front with a waist moulding and original escutcheon. The bottom moulding and bun feet are later replacements. Excellent original colour and patina. Second half of the 17th century

The simple form of this cassone is very pleasing, and does not distract from the fabulous, rich, lustrous patina that it has developed over time which is its main feature.
