Description / Expertise

The top with a moulded cresting, with a small, old repair. The panelled back with deep, crisp, stylised carving within a central narrow panel between two larger, moulded panels with flaming torches. The uprights with two applied feathered columns. The flat arms chamfered at the sides, and with a small, old repair at the end of the right arm, and faced with a gothic moulding. The lift up seat a later replacement with later period hinges. The cushion upholstered in 18th century, crimson velvet with contemporary gold tassels. The left hand seat upright a later replacement . The front with two moulded panels with linenfold carving with a repair to one section on the far left hand side. The sides with a linefold panel below the arms and another adjacent with the seat. The lower moulding replaced and standing on replaced feet. Excellent original colour and patina. French, first Renaissance, first half of the 16th century. 90521329.
