“Ben Nevis” is a wonderfully observed and painted study of Britain’s tallest mountain at sunset by renowned 19th century highland painter Alfred de Bréasnki. With superb observation of the features of the locale, scenery and atmosphere are captured in this painting.Born in Greenwich (London) in 1852, the eldest son of Leopold de Bréanski, Alfred became famous for his paintings of British landscapes. His prolific output included views of the River Thames (where he kept a houseboat) and also Scottish and Welsh mountain landscapes. Of particular note are spectacular paintings of Scottish lochs at sunset. He exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1872 and 1890, and also at the Society of British Artists on Suffolk Street. He had seven children including two sons who also became painters - Arthur and Alfred Fontville de Bréanski. “Ben Nevis” is a fabulous, classical Bréanski of the highest quality, an excellent piece of art.
