Description / Expertise

A gajo album of fourteen urushi-e (lacquer paintings), depicting various subjects, mostly plant studies (bamboo, iris, monring glory, wild rose, arrowroot, wild chrysanthemum, bushclover and susuki grass together, chrysanthemums flowering beneath their winter straw cover, nanten and one other, possibly hydragnea villosa), as well as a sheet of shells and another of butterflies, and a scene at either end, a gourd hanging from a maple tree, and cranes in pine trees atop a cliff. The album has cloth-bound wood covers.
Each sheet 19.4 by 17 cm.

Thanks to the inscription on the base of a lacquer tokuri by Taishin which we acquired shortly before this album, we know that Taishin used the name Koma. It therefore appears that the Koma and Shin seals used on these sheets are also those of Taishin.
