Description / Expertise
A fine George III breakfront bookcase of compact proportions, attributed to Gillows of Lancaster: in rosewood with boxwood stringing and satinwood banding; attractive turned and tapering column supports. Attributed to Gillows of Lancaster.
The attribution to Gillows is based on stylistic similarities to a rosewood commode supplies by Gillows to Luke Dillon 2nd Lord Clonbrock, Clonbrock, County Galway. See Frances Collard, Regency furniture, page 83 for a photograph of the aforementioned commode.
