Blairquhan was built for Sir David Hunter Blair, 3rd Baronet, by William Burn in 1820.

A GRAND TOUR WHITE MARBLE BUST OF THE APOLLO BELVEDERE

A well carved white marble bust of the Apollo Belvedere after the antique. Apollo shown with head turned to sinister.

The original Apollo Belvedere, now in the Belvedere Courtyard, Musei Vaticani, Rome, was most probably discovered at Anzio in the late fifteenth century. It is recorded in the Vatican by 1509 and in the Belvedere by 1511, where it remained until ceded by Pope Pius VI to the French under the terms of the Treaty of Tolentino in February 1797. After being displayed in Paris at the Musee Central des Arts, it was returned to the Belvedere courtyard in 1816.
