Description / Expertise

A fine pair of 18th century mezzotints part printed in colour and with contemporary hand colouring; "Captn. Faulkner in the Zebra................." together with "Capt. Trollope in the Glatton".
Captn. Faulkner in the Zebra of 16 Guns storming Fort Royal Martinique containing 1200 men well provided for commanded by Rochambeau. The narrative from the London Gazette April 21st 1794 is reproduced in English to the left and translated for the French to the right of the title. Engraved and published August 15th 1797 by James Daniell after the work by Henry Singleton.
Capt. Trollope in the Glatton of 54 Carronades engaging a French squadron of 8 Ships of War carrying 230 guns. London Gazette July 23 1796 Published June 15th 1797. Daniell's trade label is pasted to the reverse of each print. Beautifully reframed in 1963.
