Description / Expertise
Card & Co square piano c1835 in cross banded and curl mahogany case raised on turned and reeded legs 6 octave. This instrument is unusually late to be free from an iron frame or metal bars.
This is the only known surviving 19th century instrument made by the Card family who have continued as piano makers until recent times, Tony Card the last practicing member of the family (now retired) having been a Director of John Broadwood & Sons and subsequently a consultant and advisor to a major Chinese piano manufacturer.
