Charles William (1786-1857), son of William, 4th Earl Fitzwilliam and Lady Charlotte Ponsonby, fourth daughter of the 3rd Viscount Molesworth, married in 1806, Mary, fourth daughter of 1st Baron Dundas; succeeded his father 1833; assumed additional name of Wentworth by Royal licence in 1856
He was three times President of the Royal Statistical Society (1838–40, 1847–49 and 1853–5).
Before inheriting the Earldom, he was known by the courtesy title of Viscount Milton. Under that name he was the Whig Member of Parliament from Northamptonshire between 1831 and 1832.
