Description / Expertise

A fine Scottish bracket clock from the 1790s of a style popularised by Ellicott. The inverted bell top case has ebony veneers, the wooden door with brass spandrels backed with red material at the corners to brighten the look. The side and back are all glazed to allow the movement to be seen. The case is surmounted with four brass pineapple finials, and a brass carrying handle, and stands on bracket feet.

The eight day fusee timepiece movement has tapered plates, four knopped pillars, and center date.

The 7 inch round silvered dial is signed for the maker, Green, Edinburgh. It has an outer minute track for minutes, and a ring of Arabic date numerals within the Roman hour numerals.
