Description / ExpertiseOil on textured gesso surface on board. Ithell Colquhoun studied at the Slade School of Fine Art in the late 1920s and then in Paris and Athens. She exhibited at a wide range of venues including solo shows at the Mayor Gallery and the Fine Art Society. During the 1930s she was associated with the surrealist movement in Britain. Her work is represented in Bradford and Cheltenham Art Galleries. She lived for many years in Cornwall and had a small studio in the Lamorna Valley. The painting is dated 1976 and is housed in what may be its original mahogany strip frame. The underlying gesso work gives the painting a sculptural feel.
