Large Round Silver Box with Marie Antoinette. (1896 England)

The box has continental assay marks and clear London import marks for 1896.

2.30inch wide    4.30inch high    (5.84 cm wide  10.92 cm high)

The box is in crisp mint condition.

This not a massive silver box but is much larger than usual and very substantial in weight and thickness.
The box has a hinged lid, which is cut into the top of the box. It is decorated with a raised profile of Marie Antoinette in all her splendor– she is wearing a very ornate hat, flowing dress and has multiple ringlets in her hair. Around the image is a border with the words “Mar. Anton. Aust. France et Navarr. Regina”. The border of lid is decorated a laurel wreath and also has a substantial raised thumb piece for the lid. The rest of the box is decorated with flowers, leaves and scrolls in crisp high relief. The inside of the box has a pale gold finish.
