Undamaged condition. Maker's mark is rubbed but just legible.

A Victorian novelty silver, hallmarked 'Gladstone Bag' box made by Saunders & Shepherd in Birmingham in 1899. The box is engraved to simulate the leather-work on a read Gladstone bag. The lid opens to reveal a gilded interior. We have no idea what the original purpose was intended for. Perhaps a pill box or snuff box.
