Rathbone was born in Cheshire and earned himself the nickname ‘The Manchester Wilson’. He was a self-taught
Artist and his paintings were frequently embellished with figures by his drinking partners, George Morland & Ibbetson.
Rathbone exhibited 48 paintings at the Royal Academy.
His work is represented in the Walker Art Gallery.
