Description / Expertise

A Palais Royal fully fitted piano form musical sewing box, the exterior veneered in stained burr maple with a mother-of-pearl and ebony keyboard and a gilt brass double cornucopia escutcheon, on five turned legs, the interior with a mirror lined lid over a shallow lift-out tray in red velvet, with a full complement of gilded and other fittings, comprising; a pair of gilt oval boxes with agate set lids within rope surrounds, a gold pique ivory needle or toothpick box, a gold retractable pencil, a pair of steel bladed scissors with gold floral arms below birds and oval laurel loops, together with sheath, a single blade folding knife, the blade marked “VR James Green & Co”, with leaf decorated gilt handle, a notelet in the form of a fan, the exterior in gilt filigree and complete with miniature pencil, a gold thimble with floral cast border, and a gilt metal vinaigrette of box form with jewelled lid, the musical box with multiple 17 section comb playing two airs, complete with keys, and silk squab.
