Cenek Chodera was born in Tousen, Czechoslovakia in 1881. He attended the Prague School of Applied Arts under Ernst Hofbauer, and continued his studies in Paris at the Academie des Beaux Arts, the Academie Julien and privately with Maurice Utrillo. He lived and worked in Paris until 1911 when he returned to Czechoslovakia, having exhibited at various Paris Salons throughout that time. He also made a brief painting trip to London during this period.
Cenek Chodera remained based in Czechoslovakia for the rest of his life, exhibiting in Prague and galleries throughout the country, and other European cities such as Venice, Stockholm, Oslo, and Copenhagen, He specialised in landscapes, not only of Czechoslovakia, but also making regular trips to France and Italy for inspiration.
Cenek Chodera’s paintings can be found in the National Gallery of Prague, the City Gallery of Prague, and the art collection of the Czech Republic in various governmental offices.
Cenek Chodera died in 1955.
