John Hoar, b. 1947. Read architecture at Cambridge and Brixton School of Building. Studied drawing and painting under Ruskin Spear R.A.
Draughtsman in several archeological digs in Italy and Iran.
Began painting full time in 1980.
Lived at first in the Cotswolds and then, from 1987, in South Molton.
Specialises in architecural subjects but also paints landscapes, marine and floral studies.
He has his own gallery in East Sreet, South Molton, where he holds two exhibitions a year whilst also displaying his work in galleries in England and Ireland.
He is part author of Watercolour Plus, published by David and Charles in 2003.
John won first prize for watercolour in 1988, the Donald Blake prize in 2003 and the Lincoln Joyce prize, at the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, in the same year.
