A fine cleek with handpunched face markings and the back of the head carries the 'King's Crown' mark with R. Forgan & Son, St. Andrews, the shaft is also stamped with makers name. The hickory shaft is still with original sheepskin grip. Mounted on the shaft is a silver shield inscribed "SEMI FINALS AUG.19 1908 M.D.A.
The shaft is also stamped with the owners initials M.D.A.
A beautiful club in very good condition.

The 'Crown' stamp was in use from 1901 to 1908 and indicates that Forgan made clubs for King Edward.
Robert Forgan is one of the most famous club makers, and started working for his uncle Hugh Philp in 1852. Philp was renowned as one of the best wooden club makers around. When Philp died in 1856 Forgan took over the business. Many of the other great club makers such as Auchterlonie and Anderson learned their trade with Forgan before setting up on their own.
