Condition

In excellent condition, the bronze, with a lovely even light green patina over whole, one tang of six missing on reverse. Damage to silver as photographed. Stand not integral.

Roman Medusa Head Chariot Fitting

c. 1st-2nd Century AD

Early Roman empire bronze chariot fitting comprising ornate openwork floriate design flanking either side of central concentric circle with superb silver head of Medusa in raised relief. The section of the bronze, a combination of plano-convex and chamfered edges, sides of the central circle chamfered to full length.
