Myrna Schkolne in her book People,Passions,Pastimes and Pleasures. Staffordshire Figures 1810-35 dedicates chapter 30 to figures with a religous theme. A pair of figures of the Flight and Return are illustrated.

Some restorations.

A large size pair of Staffordshire pearlware figures of Joseph, Mary and Jesus in their Flight and return from Eygpt.
This model is the largest version produced of this popular subject in the first quarter of the 19th century.
The large scale of the figures gives them strong presence which is heightened by the detailed modelling and strong application of the enamel colours.
These figures are rare especially a pair.
