Tinware oil lamp, possibly Pennsylvania. (19th century USA)

Reference no. 93144

Dimensions

8.00inch high    (  20.32 cm high)

Description / Expertise

Unusual tinware oil lamp with sliding cover over filling hole. Closely similar in some respects to early American lighting pieces such as the 'Pensylvania kettle lamp' illustrated in 'Early Lighting' by the Rushlight Club, fig 4-34 p.44. I believe that there is also a possiblity that it might be German in origin although I have not seen the sliding lid in a European example.
