One of Jersey's best-loved artists, Blampied was a painter, sculptor, cartoonist and illustrator however he first made his reputation as a printmaker. Born in 1886 at Ville Brée, St Martin, he left school at the age of fourteen to become an artist. He studied at Lambeth School of Art and in 1904 joined the staff of the Daily Chronicle as an illustrator. He developed his skills in etching and lithography at Bolt Court, the Fleet Street printmaking school, and by 1914 his reputation was made. In 1920 he was elected an Associate of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers and a Fellow the following year. With his wife Marianne he travelled in Europe and North Africa before settling in Jersey in 1938. His work was exhibited and published widely.
World-wide including the British Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum, Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Jersey Museum etc.
