A SCOTTISH ROCOCO WHITE MARBLE CHIMNEYPIECE
SIGNED ‘D A’. CIRCA 1840.
The serpentine shaped shelf with moulded edge, above an elaborately carved frieze decorated with scrolled acanthus leaves, with a central scallop carved shell above the hearth opening with a double moulded surround, flanked by c-scrolled acanthus leaves, leading to s-scrolled volutes with panels and relief flower heads above three small acanthus motifs terminating in scrolled leaves with curved block feet.
Measurements: Height 48”/122cm, Width 76”/193cm, Depth 15”/38cm.
