MAX LUDBY RI RBA 1858-1943
‘A THAMES BACKWATER’
Max Ludby lived at Cookham on the Thames and painted finely observed landscapes. From 1882-1884 he studied in Antwerp and thereafter exhibited more than one hundred times including five times at the Royal Academy in London between 1879-1893. This superb early work, in its original frame, captures beautifully the tranquility of the upper reaches of the river Thames.
