Description / Expertise
One of the finest marine painters of his day, Theodore Weber was born in Leipzig in 1838 and studied under Willhelm Krause in Berlin. From 1856 he continued his studies in Paris, where he lived for the rest of his life, until his death in 1907. This fine painting, painted circa 1880, is typical of his work and captures beautifully harbour-life at the time. He is very highly regarded and is in the collection of no fewer than nine museums – Cologne, Dijon, Leipzig, Melbourne, Mulhouse, Nice, Nottingham, Rio de Janeiro and Sydney.
