THE NEW CALVES
ARTHUR CLAUDE STRACHAN
1865 – 1932 11 x 17 ½ inches
Watercolour
Arthur Claude Strachan was a painter of landscapes and cottages mostly painted in watercolour. He was born in Edinburgh in 1865 and he studied at Liverpool. He spent many years there but also lived at addresses in Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Cheshire and at Minehead in Somerset but returned eventually to Scotland.
Strachan was one of a number of artists who painted pictures of gardens belonging to farm labourers in which flowers were allowed to grow in wild profusion.
He exhibited work at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool
and the Royal Academy and exhibited in London from 1885-1929.
