Description / Expertise
A superb and unique Regency burr elm, partridge wood and satinwood banded centre table attributable to renowned Edinburgh cabinetmaker William Trotter. The top with central burr elm roundel, with further radiating segmented veneers bordered by a wide partridge wood banding enclosed by two narrower satinwood bands. The frieze with applied turned elm half cylinders. Below, the base with tapering triangular shaped column of solid elm, veneered with burr elm, with inverted reeded scrolls and carved leaf decoration to each side and bordered by burr elm panels with gadrooned edge. The leaf scrolls have a tightly ringed applied rosette with carved leaves in the form of a wing (a known Trotter feature). The table stands on a quad partite base of burr elm legs with Regency knees with carved vine leaves terminating in unusual reeded castors. Fantastic!
