Campaign Wash Stand 19th Century Mahogany & Brass ( England c. 1815 )

This is the same washstand which we had in our exhibition “ The Pen and The Sword, Writing and Fighting At Home and Abroad” back in 1988 the catalogue for which became one of the cornerstones for Nicholas Brawer’s Book: “British Campaign Furniture - Elegance Under Canvas 1740-1914”
This is illustrated on the front and rear covers of the book as well as on plates 116 & 117.

Description / Expertise

An early 19th Century Mahogany & Brass Campaign Wash Stand. This is typical of the many, varied and ingenious pieces of campaign furniture made during the period when Britain was consolidating an empire and without which no self respecting General would have been seen abroad.
