A good and unusual Regency lace wood cheval mirror. The frame with twin turned and ebony banded vertical supports, with two lower and one upper turned and ebony banded stretchers. The mirror plate held within a frame work with lace wood paneled back and cross banded front surround. The whole structure is supported on asymmetric swept legs (to allow the mirror to lean backwards to provide a comfortable angle) terminating in brass caps and castors. A pretty and unusual mirror of good compact size.

Lace wood is a term given to the timber obtained from the London Plane Tree. These trees are often seen lining avenues in London. The light coloured wood looks similar to satinwood and has a characteristic fine black grain reminiscent of fine lace, thus the name.
