A fine George II walnut moon phase, longcase clock by William Hornblower, London. The case of lovely faded colour and excellent patina. The hood with broken arch door and pagoda above with central fretwork sounding aperture with three ball finials. The trunk with a feather banded broken arch door and cross banded sides. The base with feather banded central panel and double plinth base. The superb quality 5 pillar movement, quarter chiming, hour chiming & striking. The dial with top central moon phase, engraved circumference, below a silvered chapter ring and matted centre, subsidiary seconds, date aperture makers cartouche inscribed Wm Hornblower, London. William Hornblower is listed in "Baillie's Clock Makers of the World" as making after 1694 and free of the Clock Makers Company in 1714. A fabulous clock by a well regarded London maker, retaining an excellent faded colour to the case.
