Literature:
These objects were created in the Royal Victorian petrifying wells of Matlock Bath in Derbyshire as souvenirs. A calcareous deposit is formed by drops of water filtering through tufa from the roof of the well, which over time assumes the hardness of stone changing the object upon which the deposit falls into a curious ‘fossil’.
