Description / Expertise
In 1932 Smith was in the South of France where he concentrated on landscape oils and watercolours and toured extensively. He stayed at Cagnes during 1933 when the present watercolour was executed. It is related to his 1933 oil painting of the same subject (exhib Royal Academy, Matthew Smith, 1960, no.175).
