Description / Expertise
Studio of JAMES NORTHCOTE RA (1746-1831)
‘Girl with Mice’
oil on canvas in gold leaf frame 23.5x19.5ins
A young girl holding some pet mice, the impish grin on her face shows the influence of Reynolds on Northcote’s work. This portrait is typical of Northcote’s approach to ‘fancy’ paintings.
Northcote had a small studio of artists, many of whom finished his work on his behalf.
