A superb portrait of Charles 8th. Earl Haddington, it is set in the original locket case with inscribed reverse.Charles was the only child of Thomas, 7th Earl Haddington.In 1779 he married Sophia Hope, daughter of John, Earl of Hopetoun. They had one child, a son, Thomas who later became 9th. Earl. Charles was hereditory keeper of the Palace and Park of Holyroodhouse, he was also Lieutenant of Haddingtonshire, Privy Councillor and a Knight of the Thistle.
