Description / Expertise
John was the youngest child of James Douglas 14th. Earl of Morton, by Bridget Heathcote, his second wife. With no hopes of inheriting fom his father, he joined the army aged nineteen, as an ensign in the !st. regiment of Foot Guards.By 1786 he had become senior Lieutenant and Captain.
In 1784 John married Lady Frances Lascelles, at North Allerton, Yorkshire. She gave him five children.
