Charles Bale was almost exclusively a painter of exquisite still-life paintings of fruit. He lived and worked in London and exhibited twenty-four times between 1868 and 1875, including at The Royal Academy, The Society of British Artists and the Dudley Gallery. This fine example of his work, by repute, was exhibted at The Royal Academy in 1872.
