Description / Expertise
A FINE GEORGE II MAHOGANY SERPENTINE COMMODE IN THE MANNER OF THOMAS CHIPPENDALE. Circa 1755. The exceptional quarter veneered top with ogee moulded edge above four graduated cockbeaded drawers with mirrored veneer fronts with original swan neck handles and milled back plates, between canted angles, completed by a further ogee moulding above shaped bracket feet. The sides are gently curved. The sober elegance, thin red wash to the interior, laminated block construction and 'cover' nails are closely related to Dumfries House furniture attributed to Thomas Chippendale's workshop. This piece is in outstanding condition and retains all its original metalwork and feet. Measurements: Height 33 " (84.5cms); Width 42" (107cms); Depth 24 " (62cms).
