Description / Expertise
Boxwood Flemish figure, a short veil covers the Virgin's head and a mantle is wrapped gracefully about the figure and over her left arm and falls in an elaborate series of harmonious folds, the Christ Child being held on her right arm.
The best time for carved woodwork and decorative furniture in the Netherlands was the seventeenth century when a style we recognise as 'Flemish Renaissance" was established.
These small beautifull carvings were often used for private devotion.
