CLIFFORD FISHWICK (1923-1997)

Clifford Fishwick was a painter in oil, watercolour & gouache as well as a lithographer. Born on 21 June 1923 at Rising Bridge, near Accrington, in Lancashire.
Studied at Liverpool College of Art 1940-2 & 1946-47. Exhibited at RA, RSA, & RWA & in the provinces. Combined a busy painting career with teaching at Exeter College of Art, becoming principal,1958-84.
Fishwick was a member of Newlyn Society 1952-83. Exhibited at the Penwith Society in the 1950’s & 60’s with a solo show in 1983.
Over the years Fishwick’s style changed as certain influences took effect, the Neo-Romantics, the Cornish painters and the second School of Paris painters such as Nicolas Stael. His later work was more abstract.
