Charles I sterling silver bodkin, of very heavy gauge and decorated with Stuart engraving.
The top of the bodkin is finished with a small scoop.

There is some controversy regarding the use of the small scoop at the top of the bodkin. One school of thought believes it to have been an ear pick, while others believe the scoop had the dual purpose of applying wax or oil to the thread to stiffen it, as well as to push the thread through the material.
