Description / Expertise
In sizes, undoubtedly for a Lady and Gentleman and contained within a silk lined leather case. The covers, on both boxes, display cast wave motifs and scroll work on an engine turned ground with a vacant rectangular cartouche in the centre. The sides and bases are also engraved with engine turning and each box has a fine flush hinge. The interiors also display exceptional gilding and grilles which are pierced with pluming scrolls and a central flower head. Made in Birmingham in 1830/1831 by John Bettridge. The difference in years is obviously where the hallmarking year changed as the boxes were being made.
