Description / Expertise
The naval dockyard at Sheerness was established in the 17th century by Samuel Pepys, and closed in 1960. Carmichael’s view shows the dockyard in its heyday. On the left is the fortified Garrison Point; to its right (with tower) are Edward Holl’s Quadrangle Storehouses, which were begun in 1822 and demolished in the 1970s.
