Description / Expertise
Frederick Louis, Prince of Wales (1707-1751) wearing armour with yellow lining over red coat, blue cloak trimmed with ermine and blue Sash of the Order of the Garter
Frederick the eldest son of King George II of Great Britain (reigned 1727–60) and father of King George III (reigned 1760–1820) was a keen supporter of the arts and sciences and did much to further the cause of both in England.
This portrait was painted in Germany, before the Prince came to England in 1728. There is an engraving by Vertue, in the British Museum after this enamel
