Description / Expertise
An important early 18th century Irish carved gilt wood and gesso pier mirror of architectural form, the broken swan-neck pediment centred by a vase of flowers above an entablature, centred by a draped swag with flowers and carved armorials either side the later rectangular plate within a carved floral and acanthus leaf boarder, the shaped base with scrolls and centred by a basket of flowers and fruit.
This mirror is almost identical to a pair of gilt wood and gesso pier mirrors by John Booker SNR ,supplied in1743 to Jenico, tenth Viscount Gormanstown (1707-1757) for the saloon at the old Gormanstown castle, which have there original John Booker bill dated 29th October 1743.
