Biography
17TH C FLEMISHThe artist was probably an Antwerp painter. More than a hundred works of his are known today and apparently all are unsigned.
According to the Curator of the Department of Old Netherlands Paintings at the Netherlands Institute for Art History, Professor Fred G Meijer, this 17th Century painting is attributed to the Pseudo Simons.
" The style and handling of the fruit and flowers appears to be those of a (probably) Antwerp artist, by whom one hundred paintings are known today, but who apparently never signed, as a result has not been identified properly as yet. For the last decade or so, he (or she) has been termed, 'pseudo Simons', since quite a few of his works have turned up on the art market with the attributions to Michiel Simons. Stylistically, his work is closer to that of the Antwerp painter Jan Pauwel Gillemans the Elder.
