AnthemionEst. 1983
Anthemion specialises primarily in English period furniture, rare early walnut pieces from the late 17th and early 18th centuries, fine Georgian and Regency period mahogany furniture, with paintings, some examples of metalware and works of art also in stock. The business was founded by Jonathan Wood, who first started dealing in the antiques trade in 1980 and opened a retail shop in 1987 in the picturesque village of Cartmel in Cumbria. Richard Davis joined the business in 1990, adding his breadth of knowledge and experience. Cartmel is an unspoilt medieval village with a famous 12th-century Priory Church, situated in a quiet valley in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The surrounding landscape reaches out to meet the sands of Morecambe Bay on the edge of the Furness Peninsula. Anthemion’s carefully chosen stock includes a wide range of pieces, ranging from elegant 18th-century mahogany pieces, such as dining chairs or tables, to Regency cabinets and distinctive oak dressers. Other examples of stock chosen to complement the larger items include mirrors and small decorative pieces. The business is delighted to provide advice on individual items of antique furniture or offer imaginative guidance on creating a cohesive room or scheme for an entire house. Home viewing of items is usually available. |
