Charles Ede LtdEst. 1971
Charles Ede Ltd deals in Classical and pre-Classical antiquities from Greece, Egypt, Italy, Cyprus and the Near East. The business is currently run by James Ede, whose father, Charles, first founded it in 1971. Charles Ede Ltd is based in London’s fashionable Brook Street, within walking distance of many other art and antiques galleries. Their stock is highly specialised with pieces ranging from finely crafted jewellery and sculpture to lethal weapons and protective armour. They also have many domestic items including Roman glassware, pottery, oil lamps and writing equipment. Collectively, the pieces in Charles Ede Ltd’s stock give a rare and valuable insight into the sophistication of the ancient worlds. James Ede seeks to inspire and educate new collectors to this discipline with a dedicated page on his website where all pieces are priced under £1,000. The business produces an annual catalogue in November which includes a ‘stocking filler’ section, to cater for those new to collecting as well as pieces for the academic and seasoned collector. James Ede is a former Chairman of the Antiquities Dealers’ Association and has served on a number of art market committees, including The British Art Market Federation. He exhibits at TEFAF Maastricht in March and at the Masterpiece Fair in London in June. |
