Geoffrey Breeze Antique CanesEst. 1972
Antique canes, walking sticks and umbrellas have long been a passion of Geoffrey Breeze’s and he offers a large selection dating from 1650 to 1950. He regards the canes he sells, not as perambulatory aids, but items of fashion, individuality, power, status and profession. Geoffrey’s antiques business was first established in 1972 and had branches in London and Bath but he now deals from London antique fairs and the business’s website. A cane was designed to be worn rather than used. It showed who you were and how you viewed yourself. Whether you sported a jewelled Fabergé cane or one of whalebone fashioned by a sailor on a long sea voyage, your cane made a powerful statement. Consequently, these items are intensely personal. Each cane is redolent of the history of bygone individuals and their times. Canes fashioned from shark vertebrae or adorned with carved ivory faces, or perhaps an ebony cobra, are typical of the rich variety offered for sale. No two canes are alike. Geoffrey also offers an antique cane consultation service and is always happy to discuss the buying and selling of a single item or an entire collection.
